We are very excited to announce that the province of Limburg has now signed up to our currency the E-Portemonnee (e-wallet) – an electronic savings and reward system designed to encourage sustainable environmentally friendly behaviour.

Screenshot 2014-04-02 08.57.0112 municipalities within Limburg are already running e-wallets for their residents, with one more in the process of signing up.

And now with the province on board, all households in Limburg can participate. The remaining 44 municipalities have pledged to fully adopt the e-wallet, offering new local facilities and locations for residents to redeem their points.photo

Limburg.net chairman Walter Cremers:

“We are pleased that our e-wallet is now available to all Limburgers. The system symbolises the mission and vision of Limburg.net in all its aspects as it rewards the sustainable behaviour of our inhabitants. In this system everyone’s a winner”

This is fantastic news for the project. Having the regional government of Limburg signed up has given the currency a huge publicity boost, with other Belgian provinces keen to find out more about how the e-wallet works.

Jacques Stern, Director of our partner Crédit Municipal de Nantes: “We’ve been actively involved in the development of complementary currency systems in Europe … compiling our know-how to lay the groundwork for further experiments with complementary currencies”
