Complementary currencies are technologies capable of creating more equal, connected and sustainable communities.

Whether through changing the valuation system to reward the reduction of household waste, or enabling residents to improve their local services, currency initiatives are becoming increasingly popular policy tools. This is because where the mainstream money system makes people into mere consumers; specially designed currencies can offer something new.
